Welcome to the British Society,
one of the oldest foundations in the United States.

Founded in 1816 the Society's original purpose was stated as being for: 'the relief of poor and destitute Britons, affording aid and consolation in their afflictions; and to provide useful information to British immigrants arriving here'.

200 years later our mission has changed very little. We continue to aid people of British descent who find themselves in need of critical financial assistance.

We raise the funds to do this by presenting a range of high quality and highly entertaining events with a distinctly 'British' flavor, which appeal both to our increasingly diverse membership and to our corporate sponsors and partners.

Please take a moment to browse through our website and get an idea of the type of organization we are. If you're seeking help, please go to the Assistance Section and follow the links.

The Society always welcomes donations to support its work. If you would like to make a contribution, please go to our Donation page.
